As opposed to a sit-down model, the stand-up forklift unit is completely different to use. The method at which you pick up cargo and your movements are totally different. If you do not have proper training for using a stand-up unit, you can possibly cause harm to yourself or to co-workers. When using a stand-up model, you must follow the correct safety regulations. There are some basic operating standards which should be met when using a stand-up unit.
To start on a stand-up unit lift truck, it is important to get a good feel for the steering knob and the controls. As opposed to a steering wheel, the steering is handled with the knob steering plate. Remember that this particular knob moves exceptionally fast, therefore, you have to get used to moving it gently in order to be sure not to over steer. The horn is located on the control handle, like with the control for the movement of the forks and for backwards, forwards. The floor pedal allows the forklift power to move.
Turn the key to start the equipment's engine if you are ready to begin. The forks should be retracted at this stage. If you are moving all-over the floor, the forks must be pointed slightly upwards. Never drive with extended forks. If you are traveling forwards, move the control handle forward and to make the lift move forward, step on the pedal. If you are backing up, be certain to beep your horn so as to warn those around you. Look behind you prior to stepping on the pedal so as to make sure the path is clear and safe. After that, while stepping on the pedal, pull the control handle towards you. Always stay alert and focused and make sure that you are always operating in a safe way.
When approaching a corner with the lift truck, turn the steering knob in the direction you are heading. Make sure to keep your hands on the control handle and keep your foot on the accelerator. When turning right, the steering knob will move in a clockwise direction while moving forward. If you are turning left, your steering knob would go in a counter-clockwise direction.
The stand-up units take some getting used to, specially if you have only used sit down models. With some training and taking some time to figure out the equipment, you could quickly and efficiently handle loads in little time.
