Change an LPG Cylinder
Forklifts are powered by various sources. They can run from liquid propane or LP gas, gasoline, diesel or battery. LP is a clean burning fuel preferred for many uses. There are some facilities that have large liquid propane supplies on site. This allows forklifts to be refueled whenever they need. In other places, the facility would have spare LP cylinders which are able to be changed out when the machinery has to be refueled.
In order to avoid potentially serious injury, specific safety measures should be taken when changing out an LP cylinder. For example: be certain to put on the correct safety equipment such as safety glasses or goggles and heavy gloves. Turn off the forklift ignition prior to changing out the tank. Next, close the cylinder valve by turning it until it is closed securely. Utilize your hand to loosen the hose connection to the tank. Remember that it would turn in the opposite direction of a normal connection and never use any kind of wrench or a metal tool on these connections. They are meant to be tightened by hand only.
