Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
There are many components which make up a lift truck. The lift truck's main parts comprise the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. In addition, a lift truck has various kinds of attachments. All the parts which make up a lift truck are all essential since they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The following paragraphs describe some of the lift truck parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls inside the cab or harm the operator. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move up and downwards. The interlocking rails may either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast could be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and other types of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To be able to allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage could have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are various types of attachments which could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common kind of attachment. What's more, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and so forth. These various kinds of attachments are handy for transporting different kinds of loads.
